A Mans Best Friend

Yes a mans best friend has been said to be his dog. This can be extended to cats as well, especially if they are treated with kindness and well looked after.
Here are some hints to make your home a place of safety and joy to yourself and your pets.
In many situations your dog is a guard dog as well and will sleep in his own kennel, but it is in many situations impossible to let your pet sleep outside, then modifications can be made to your home environment.
To protect furniture and keep it unstained especially from a new pet,try a washable slip over for your lounge chairs or for the chair favoured by your pet. A better option is to buy a      pet bed and keep it in your living room and train your pet  to stay off your furniture permanently. Nothing puts your human friends  or important visitors off more to be told just as are about to seat themselves "No that's my pets chair !".
To prevent that ruined look about a house and to keep it looking elegant,do avoid verticle blinds, ornate tassels, and long cords. If a pet is caught in any of these coverings it could panic and ruin them by thashing about. It could harm themselves by getting strangled as well as bringing them crashing down.
Try to keep electrical cords concealed ,such as under carpets or with a metal pipe covering if in a semi-permanent position ,to avoid electricution of especially young pets as they might take to chewing these.
Never allow your pet to chew on small plastic toys as this can lead to their death in an instant unobserved by any one and finally be aware where your pets are when you arrive or leave your premises by car as death can occur in an instant.Naomi works as a temp worker for a vet at times and you would be surprised how often this happens to the distress of all when the pet has to be put down. You can teach a pet to scoot by hooting or better still pick the pet up when you open your gate and let it ride with you the last few yards with you.
It is also better to use washable paints on your walls ,in areas frequented by animals.

Today I am going to write about our friends in our street that also have pets.
Whenever we go away on business or holidays we look after each others pets. Yes there is a kennel just out of town that has been going for many years as well, and treats animals humanely ,but our pets are so cosseted that they always seem to suffer from truama symtoms when taken away from their homes. We are four families and we become familiar with each others pets, feeding ,exercising and fondling them before any one goes away.We also look after each others houses,so the arrangement works well.I should say that we are all very loving owners.Next month I shall descibe some of the  pets ,including my own- Barry
